Our hand hewn timbers are generally from the internal
structure of old barns. Most beams are box heart (square) sizes
7”x 7”, 8” x 8”, and up to 12” x 12”. This type of sizing is important
to understand during the design process. Lengths can range from
6 feet to 40 feet in mixed hardwoods, and limited quantities of
southern yellow pine. Our beams are graded visually by our own
in-house standards. Visual grades are for looks only; for example,
a #1 grade is visually good on 4 sides, making it a good choice
for a vertical post. A #2 grade is visually good on 3 sides, making
it a good choice for a rafter.
To find out more about our visual grades please
give us a call at (970) 249-4848. Structural grades may be achieved
with our timbers; however, grading timbers for structural use is
not within our area of expertise and we recommend a timber grading
company or an engineer.
